THE ORANGE BLOSSOM VEIL
2021

The Orange Blossom Veil is a homage to Pieds-Noirs ('Black Feet'), a population of European descent that settled in Algeria during the French rule, and had to leave during the Algerian War.
This work focuses on their exodus and the feelings that came with it, their struggles, hopes, fears and sorrow. It is also an invitation to reflect on the fracture between personal and societal identity.
I was lucky enough to be able to use various printmaking techniques to get this project done, including lino cut and intaglio (etching).
This book was made in the context of my final year of studies, as my final major project.
